Yves Leterme (nl)
Eerste Minister
In 1989 ging Yves Leterme werken op het nationaal CVP-secretariaat in Brussel als adjunct-nationaal-secretaris, om er in 1991 nationaal CVP-secretaris te worden. Het jaar nadien verliet hij de Tweekerkenstraat om voor vijf jaar administrateur te worden bij de Europese Unie. Tegelijkertijd bleef hij politiek actief in Ieper, waar hij in 1995 schepen werd en in 1997 volksvertegenwoordiger. In 2001 werd hij fractieleider van CD&V in de kamer. In 2003 werd hij voorzitter van de partij en in 2004 minister-president van de Vlaamse regering. Op zondag 6 mei 2007 maakte hij zijn kandidatuur bekend als lijsttrekker voor de senaatslijst van de federale verkiezingen. Op 10 juni 2007 heeft hij, als CD&V-lijsttrekker voor de senaat een overwinning behaald met 796.521 voorkeurstemmen. Op 21 december 2007 werd hij Vice-Eerste Minister en Minister van Begroting, Mobiliteit, Institutionele Hervormingen en de Noordzee. Op 20 maart 2008 legde de regering Leterme I de eed af. Yves Leterme legde op 23 maart als Eerste Minister het regeerakkoord voor aan de Kamer en kreeg daarvoor het vertrouwen. In december 2008 werd Yves Leterme senator. Op 17 juli 2009 legde hij de eed af als Minister van Buitenlandse zaken.
